The Belarusian haul and heavy equipment giant BelAZ is ready for serial production of unmanned haul trucks. The first dump truck capable of carrying 130 tons of cargo is completing the final stages and will be soon rolled out. The vehicle will be navigated by GPS and the Russian global positioning system GLONASS, Belarus Ambassador to Russia Ihar Petryshenka told the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
“This is a self-driving truck. It has a new design and a totally new concept. The truck will be moving from loading and unloading stations in a fully autonomous mode owing to a highly-precise global positioning system GPS/GLONASS. The vehicle is equipped with an optical electronic system to allow it to work at any time of the day and in all weather conditions. The new truck will help to minimize the risks for a human beign when working in compliacted and unfavorable conditions,” the diplomat said.
